Deck Sealing Options
Want some tips on deck protection and deck repair? Basically, you have four options for deck sealers:
• Clear
• Wood-toned
• Semitransparent
• Solid/opaque
As a general rule, you'd use a more opaque stain on wood that is older and more weathered to cover imperfections. Here is more sealer lore for you to ponder:
• As you might expect, the best sealers provide better penetration and, naturally, the most protection. Get an oil-based product that is mixed with latex for easy clean-up.
• Clear treatments give you protection from UV radiation and water damage and will allow the wood to fade to a natural weathered, silver grey. The other types of sealers will retain a constant color.
